Life Tranisitions : Be Flexible
Hello, my name is Ann. I live in a beautiful town in west-central Florida with my husband, younger daughter, and our adorable multipoo, Rosie. I have a doctorate in pharmacy and am passionate about helping people improve their lives. I am constantly trying to find ways to make life happier, simpler, and more productive for myself and my family. I desire to do this for as many people as I can. Last year I enrolled in a Human Services counseling life coaching master's degree program. Although I am learning a lot and enjoy how this program incorporates content and skills, scholarly writing is problematic for me. My rather lengthy manuscripts take a long time to edit. But from experience, I know persistence trumps talent alone, or in the words of Benjamin Franklin, "Energy and persistence conquer all things."
While routines and adhering
to schedules are essential to productivity, we must not become so rigid that we
break with change. I have learned that flexibility is necessary because change
is constant. We have seen this in the recent onslaught of the global COVID-19
pandemic. People and institutions needed flexibility and innovation to remain
productive, safe, and healthy. If you get behind schedule in meeting a
deadline, do not panic. For me, panic is paralyzing to thinking creatively. So,
I do not see solutions if I give in to panic. Remember, you can break the rules
sometimes. You are NOT STUCK; it is okay some days to run the dishwasher for two cycles if you do not have the time to scrub the dishes before they go into the dishwasher, or occasionally, buy take-out and adjust your budget to give you extra time.
Just knowing that I am free
to be flexible has a significant positive impact on my emotional well-being.
However, if this becomes a pattern that continually creates a panic situation,
it may require some self-reflection to identify self-sabotaging activities. I
know from experience that this is much easier said than done. But any change
that would make life more enjoyable is a step in the right direction.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I would love to hear from you. Leave a comment or a question. I hope you have been motivated.
Ann.
