PURPOSE IN LIFE SERIES : WHY IS PURPOSE IMPORTANT
Proverbs 20:5
"The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters,
but one who has insight draws them out"
but one who has insight draws them out"
Do you believe in the idea of having a "life purpose" for fulfillment? If yes, then do we need to create or discover it ourselves, or is it a construct of society and not an essential component of fulfillment? If you do believe in the concept of a life purpose, it's important to keep in mind that pursuing it should not distract you from the present moment or cause you to feel frustrated, anxious, or discouraged. Instead, think of it as a journey of self-discovery that involves being present, identifying what you are passionate about, what brings you contentment, and what does not.
In our modern society, there is a significant emphasis on the accumulation of material goods and knowledge without a clear purpose. Life is full of contradictions, and it's easy to lose sight of what's truly important. Many people believe that long hours and hard work are the only paths to success. I firmly believe that hard work is valuable, but I also believe that success alone is meaningless without a sense of fulfillment. I believe that life's purpose is to connect us with our passions and true selves, thereby unleashing our creative potential and leading us to a more fulfilling existence.
The Dalai Lama has expressed the contradictions of our time quite well.
“We have more conveniences, but less time…. We have more degrees, but less sense, more knowledge but less judgment….More experts, but more problems….More medicines, but less healthiness…. We have been all the way to the moon and back but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor…..We build more computers to hold more information that produce more copies than ever before but have less communication…..We have become long on quantity, but short on quality….These are the times of fast foods but slow digestion….It is a time when there is much in the window but nothing in the room” (2002, p. 77).
Thank you for visiting my post. I hope you will return to explore the purpose of life with me. Please leave a comment, I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic.
